Houston Food Bank - Public

Getting food out to the community is a critical need during this time. We are immensely grateful for the help of our volunteers.

The Houston Food Bank and our Partners are considered essential services, which covers, "emergency food distribution as an essential public service,"
allowing for the movement and operations of food bank and pantry staff, volunteers, and people accessing emergency food assistance.

To help slow the spread of COVID-19, Harris County has now mandated a cloth face covering in public settings.
Therefore, we are asking all volunteers to bring their own face coverings when coming to volunteer.
The CDC has provided helpful tutorials on making your own masks from various materials and with varying degrees of craft skill needed:

The health and safety of our volunteers, staff, partners, and the community is always our number one priority. Amid the growing concerns around COVID-19 (Coronavirus-19), we are monitoring the situation closely. We realize that the situation today may be different next month or even tomorrow, and any changes will be communicated.  To set expectations and for clarity, the Houston Food Bank provides essential services and we will continue to do so.

Houston Food Bank has increased cleaning frequency, especially around areas of high traffic (volunteer areas, elevators, meeting rooms, bathrooms, food areas).  We encourage everyone to follow these best practices to help keep yourself and others healthy. Please help us plan the safest volunteer experience possible by registering in advance online.  All available volunteer shifts for the next 3 months are listed on the calendar below.

NOTE:  In the best interest of volunteers and staff, please be aware that we have reduced the maximum number of volunteers per shift to observe recommended social distancing practices.  Due to these safety limits, some of our regular shifts may already be closed.  If your preferred shift is not available, please select another to join us in helping others in need in our community.
